Our first Great Pyrenees. 165 pounds. A heart to match.
Schultz came to us through Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta — our very first Pyr, and at 165 pounds, impossible to miss. People would stop in their tracks when they saw him. Then he'd lean into them, and they'd stop being strangers.
His big presence brought big smiles to everyone he met, and he had a natural gift for finding the person in the room who needed comfort most. Nobody trained him to do that. It was just who he was.
Like the breed's nickname promises — a true Gentle Giant: patient, calm, and endlessly lovable.
His big presence brought big smiles to everyone who met him — and he was a natural at providing emotional support to those in need. — Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta, on the fund's namesake
Losing Schultz left a hole the size of, well, Schultz. To keep his memory alive, our family worked with GPRA to establish the Schultz Fund — a scholarship that pays for Great Pyrenees adopted through the rescue to be trained and certified as therapy dogs.
Every Pyr that earns a therapy-dog certification through the fund carries a little bit of what Schultz did naturally into hospitals, schools, and anywhere comfort is needed.
